VJ Software

VJ software and eye candy programs, allow disc jockeys, video jockeys, visual artists and even amateurs to give real-time live audio visual performances. The main feature of a good VJ software solution is to offer live video mixing options. The key features you want to look for in quality VJ software is media input (file types), supported output resolutions, media and variable controls to name but a few key must have options.

You might be looking for free or gnu or open source or creative commons licenses, maybe even full blown commercial solutions, they are all included on this site. The VJ Software list is reviewed on a regular basis and new titles are added as they become available. Please know that we also remove any titles that have become obsolete and haven't been updated to keep up with the times.

Traditionally a Disc Jockey or DJ would play music to entertain but with computers comes an easier way to take your music and video anywhere. These days, the line between a DJ and a VJ is getting blurred. In the old sense, a DJ would play music on the radio or at your school dance, where a VJ would play music videos on television for stations such as Much Music in Canada or VH1 in the USA. As we said earlier, the line is getting blurred because more often than not, you will see a DJ with a screen and projector setup to complement the music with either video or visuals that move to the beat of the music.

These days the quality of video is all about HD or High Definition and with the prices of Plasma, LCD and LED TV's dropping all the time, it's easier to install a half dozen screens all over venue to broadcast your video. The last system I built was for a private social club that used VirtualDJ, a PC running windows XP and a VGA splitter box going to 7 15" monitors that were lined up about 3 feet apart on a single wall of the club. I know what you are thinking, 15", whoa how small can you get?!? Yes, I know but the budget was limited (had to get the LCD screens donated) so I did the best with what I had. The result was fantastic, people still talk about the system to this day and even the owners even use the video system to broadcast hockey and football games on occasion. You can't beat a system that can play music with great visuals or just plain video. This system could be used to run ads instead of entertainment to promote upcoming events and special offers. The possibilities of a VJ software system are endless and you don't need to be a VJ in order to take advantage of these great solutions. Have you considered hiring someone to set it all up and then you and your staff can run it yourselves on auto-play?
